黃樹民：從民間文化研究看中國社會與文化

本文試圖從研究民間文化的角度，來探討如何增進我們對中國社會、文化的瞭解。討論重點有二：

第一，        民間文化研究的素材與書寫。

人類學對「跨文化」和「民間文化」的研究。從人類學對「大傳統」與「小傳統」的區分，討論民間文化的產生與意義。其可能性有二。

1)        小傳統在修正後被包容到大傳統中（即儒家學官所謂的「春秋之筆」，如J. Watson 研究的媽祖或M. Szonyi研究的福州淫祠）。
2)        大傳統投射到小傳統，朔造地方特色（如科大衛比較宋明兩代對閩南與珠江三角洲的經營而帶來祖先崇拜的轉變：祠堂/家廟，或道教的茅山派轉為龍虎山派）。

第二，        民間文化研究的理論與方法。

如王秋桂教授文中所提到的問題：西方學術界發展出來觀念、方法與理論是否能適用於中國社會與民間文化的研究？如何能達成此些學科的「本土化」？其相關的問題有二。

1)        是否會因文化差異，而產生出的特殊性的文化表徵、社會建構、或個人行為？（如中國人所稱的「家」，其衍生出來的「家族」、「家鄉」、「家園」、「家國」等概念，在英語中就無法找到對比）。文化相對論可以推展到多遠？(如A. Kleinman 解釋在中、日兩國的「神經衰弱」症，或J. Bonds 的Cultural Bound Syndromes)。
2)        其反面的問題是有無「普同文化」的存在？有沒有跨文化的概念與方法，可放諸四海皆準?
